The latest guidance from the Department of Health states:

If you have a fever or cough you should self-isolate for 7 days.

If you feel unwell - defined as being unable to carry our your regular activities - and have a fever and a cough you should contact NHS 111 or go online to

Please do not contact the practice unless advised by NHS 111.

Following guidance from NHS England and to protect our patients and staff there is no longer any walk-in access to the practice unless you are collecting a prescription.

All appointments must be pre-booked by calling our Reception on 016977 2551.  Please help us by providing the reason for your appointment to allow us to determine if this can be booked immediately or triaged by a GP.  Appointments will be allocated only if face to face patient care is clinically required.

Appointments will not be available to book online until further notice.

Medication and Dispensing Update

The demand for medication had been unprecedented.

Please do not request medication “just in case” as this has the potential to create shortages and is adding to the volume of additional dispensing for our team.

Staff shortages have led to the closure of our branch surgeries at Wetheral and Corby Hill.  It has now become necessary to centralise all of our collections into one site to further reduce footfall at the Brampton surgery so that our dispensers can concentrate on dispensing medication.  Therefore from Monday 30th March 2020 ALL medication collections will be from William Howard School in Brampton between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

There will be a very small number of exceptions to this where patients will be contacted by the Dispensary to collect their medication from Brampton surgery. Please do not come to Brampton surgery to collect medication unless you are first contacted by us.

Please allow 7 full working days (Monday to Friday) for medication to be dispensed.

We know that many patients are concerned about delivery of their medication and we have experienced a huge increase in requests for delivery.  We have now established a volunteer delivery service which will be in place from Monday 30th March 2020.

As this is reliant on volunteers please do not request this service unless absolutely necessary and priority will be given to patients in Very High Risk groups as identified by government letters.  Other options for medication collection are family, friends or neighbours who may be bringing you other essentials and also the various community volunteer groups which are being set up.

If you are asking someone else to collect your medication they will need to know

  • Your name and address
  • Date of Birth
  • How many items you are expecting
  • Whether you pay for your prescription or what your exemption - this is the box you would normally tick on the back of your prescription.

From all of the practice staff - Thank you for your patience and understanding and for the lovely messages of support that many of you have taken the time to send.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS  Please allow 7 working days (excluding weekends) for your prescriptions to be processed currently. We understand this is much longer than normal but due to increased demand and staff shortages, 7 working days is a realistic turn around time. If you order on the repeat line please state either Brampton or Corby Hill for collection but be aware as previously posted Corby Hill collections are during limited times. Also see previous post with a link to online ordering of your prescriptions.

Wetheral Surgery will be TEMPORARILY closed from 6:30pm today 23rd March 2020 until further notice following Corby Hills closure last Friday.  As of tomorrow, all Wetheral and Corby Hill prescription will be available for collection from Corby Hill surgery only, between 9-11am and 4:30-6:30pm Monday to Friday.  Only one person at a time will be allowed in the surgery so don’t forget your umbrella if weather changes and please stay a safe distance from each other when waiting outside.

Staff from other departments will be handing out your prescription so they will not be able to answer any dispensary questions at Corby Hill.  For any queries please call our main number 016977 2551.

Brampton surgery hours remain the same, with all prescription collections through the back door of the surgery.

Please allow 5 working days (not including weekends) for all prescription requested to be processed ready for collection.

Our primary focus is filling your prescription in a timely manner and supporting our patients, however during these trying times please appreciate our staff are all working extremely hard to ensure your needs are met as far as possible under the current circumstances.  All our staff appreciate your patience and kind word during your interacts with them.  Thank you.

Corona-virus Update  20 March 2020

As the Corona Virus outbreaks gathers speed we are keen to keep you informed about developments with respect to the practice and the provision of Primary Care Services in the Brampton catchment area.

So far the most significant impact on the practice has been the large number of staff members who are being asked to self-isolate. This is causing serious pressure on the service and we are asking for your understanding during this challenging time.
